Poets on Poetry: Rumi In-Person

The Connecticut Poetry Society will be presenting their series of workshops, "Poets on Poetry", with a Connecticut poet leading a close reading of a chosen poet. Tonight the featured poet is Rumi (also known as Jalal al-Din Rumi), and the workshop leader is poet Mark Sheriden. Cheryl Hale, the new Poet Laureate of Middletown, will also be present.

13th century Persian poet Rumi's poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. Rumi has been described as the "most popular poet" and the "best selling poet" in the United States. Like other mystic and Sufi poets of Persian literature, Rumi's poetry speaks of love which infuses the world.
