One Book on the Riverbend Book Discussion: The Overstory In-Person
All are welcome tp attend the One Book on the Riverbend selection, The Overstory by Richard Powers. This is a rich and Mesmerizing piece of contemporary literture. Like the rings of a tree, chapters and characters arcs circle back on each other in interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An engrossing tale of a handful of people who learn how to see the world and who are drawn into its unfolding catastrophe. The Overstory is a sweeping impassioned work of activism and resistance. It is also a stunning evocation of- and paean to- the natural world. It is an eye opening look at time, humanity, the environment, and the relations among them. Truly a book that could change the way you think about the world and our place in it. All are welcome, whether you have finished the book or not!
