Celebrating Black History – Celebrating You - Young, Gifted and Black. Online

Join us for our virtual Black History Month celebration featuring Connecticut State Troubadour, Nekita Waller and the NAACP Youth Council!

Nekita Waller is Connecticut's 17th State Troubadour. The Connecticut State Troubadour is an honorary position, established in 1991 by the Connecticut General Assembly. The State Troubadour functions as an ambassador of music and song and promotes cultural literacy among Connecticut citizens.  Nekita was appointed by the Connecticut Office of the Arts and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to begin her three year term on Aug. 1, 2018.

Nekita has been entertaining audiences since her stage debut at the famous Apollo Theater as a child. Nekita sings throughout the region and performs annually as a headliner for several town summer concerts series. As a soloist, Nekita sings the national anthem for the UConn Huskies and Boston Celtics. Nekita is also an experienced session artist lending her vocal talent in the recording studio on projects with Grammy and Emmy award winning producers. Nekita's most recent original song Connecticut Anthem has been featured on Channel 8 and has gathering over 60,000 views in a couple of months.

The NAACP Youth Council will have three featured performers; Ms. Abigail Manifold, Ms. Aaliyah Manifold, and Ms. Jenaya Salafia and NAACP President Parrish Holloman will share closing remarks.

There are a limited number of spots availible in the zoom session, so we plan to also go live on the Russell Library Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RussellLibrary/live
